
The 2011 Sarah Marwil Lamstein Children's Literature Lecture featured Lois Lowry, two-time Newbery Medal winner for Number the Stars and The Giver. The event took place on March 31, 2011 in the Rackham Amphitheatre. Before the lecture, Lois Lowry met with the Creative Writing MFA students, to everyone’s delight.
The 2010 Lamstein Lecturer was Chris Van Allsburg. Cynthia Kadohata spoke in 2010. Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket appeared in 2008, and in 2007 Christopher Paul Curtis inaugurated the event.
The Sarah Marwil Lamstein Children's Literature Lecture is an endowment by her husband Joel Lamstein to the English Department of the University of Michigan. The faculty of the English Department and the Creative Writing Program select the Lamstein lecturers.
